William McKenzie: Tours of Duty

During his 20-year Navy career, "Mac" rose from a Lieutenant/Junior Grade to Captain. He served on seven ships (five submarines, two supply ships), and on operational assignments:

​

• Commanding Officer, Navy Training Center (Bellingham, WA)

​

• Staff, Pacific Fleet Commander in Chief (Admiral Arleigh Burke)

​

• Commanding Officer Naval Ordnance Engineering Facility, Bangor WA

​

It wasn't glamorous....70 or 80 sailors crammed into a narrow tube, reeking of diesel fuel and infested with roaches....
