Captain William McKenzie Biography-2
William McKenzie
& His Omega Seamaster
William McKenzie was born and raised in Billings Montana. After graduating from the University of Colorado in 1946, he enlisted in the Navy. In 1949, Bill married Marjorie Agte, his high school sweetheart.
He graduated from Submarine school in 1949, and served as a junior officer aboard three submarines (USS Caiman, USS Cusk, USS Bluegill). In 1956, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, and served as the Executive Officer (XO) of the USS Greenfish (SS351) for two years (1956-1958).
In honor of his promotion, he purchased a 1956 Omega Seamaster , engraved "LCDR ~ Bill McKenzie ~ USS ~ Greenfish ~ SS351”.
The Seamaster was explicitly developed by Omega for aviators and mariners -- it is sealed and "waterproof" -- and was an excellent choice for a new submarine commander!
After 65 years, the black dial, gold bezel, & signed Omega crown are in perfect condition. The stainless steel back cover shows significant wear & some pitting -- a testament to how much Lt. Cmdr McKenzie wore the watch during his Pacific Ocean tours-of-duty!
