Pete Burge - Star Athlete

Dennis F. “Pete” Burge was born on January 11, 1913 in Poplarville, Mississippi. In 1930, he matriculated at Pearl River Junior College, and became a three-sport star athlete.

Dennis played center and end on the football team; center on the Basketball squad, and ran the 100, 220, and 440 on the track team.

In the Pearl River Satsuma yearbook, Pete was praised as “ of the best (basketball) centers in the South”, and “playing (football) with plenty of grit…often outplaying opposing linesmen outweighing him by many pounds”.
